CS:GO System Requirements

The low CS:GO system requirements, price, and gameplay created a smash hit.

There are 350,000+ regular players any given month. The title's seen tournament prize pools topping $1.5 million.

Valve & Hidden Path released CS:GO in 2012 to mixed reviews. Today, after years of tweaking and updates, the title has sold over 25 million copies.

Never played CS:GO? Now's the time! Here are the system requirements and extras to explore this addictive title.

The Minimum CS:GO System Requirements

Valve did a fantastic job optimizing the game to run on low-end hardware. Yet, don't expect to play many comp matches when running minimum specs.

What's the minimum to get the game running?

PC/Windows

  • OS: Windows 7+
  • CPU: Intel Core Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better
  • RAM: 2GB
  • GPU: 256MB+ (DirectX 9 compatible)
  • DirectX: 9.0c+
  • HDD: 15GB+

MAC

  • OS: OSX 10.6.6+
  • CPU: Intel Core Duo (2GHz+)
  • RAM: 2GB
  • GPU: ATI Radeon HD 2400 / Nvidia 8600M or better
  • HDD: 15GB+

Linux

  • OS: Ubuntu 12.04
  • CPU: 64-bit/2.8GHz+ by Intel or AMD
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU: Nvidia 8600/9600GT, Radion HD2600/3600 or better
  • HDD: 15GB+
  • Sound: OpenAL compatible

CS:GO Performance Tweaks

CS:GO is CPU intensive because of the Source engine. A high-end CPU would compensate for low-end GPUs. Yet, you'll want a decent GPU regardless.

The game heavily relies on pin-point accuracy. This goes bunk if you're having lag spikes and stuttering. Pushing the minimum CS:GO system specs with higher AA and screen resolution is going to be a bad time.

What performance tweaks can you do to play smooth?

  • Drivers - Update GPU drivers to their latest releases
  • Low/Disabled Everything - Drop settings to a low for the easiest FPS boost
  • Power Options - Set computer's power to 'High Performance'
  • Cleanup - Unclog dusty fans & clear disk and temp files
  • Vertical Sync - Set this to 'Off' in your GPU options
  • Aspect - Set 16:9 for widescreen else 4:3 for an extra boost

CS:GO System Requirements for Servers

CS:GO has thousands of community maps and games created by its users. You can host one using built-in tools but the better option is a dedicated server. A dedicated server puts you in control of map rotation and community.

What are the specs needed to run a server? That's tricky.

There are many variables:

  • How many players will you host? 12, 24, 32 or more?
  • Will you use Linux or Windows?
  • 64 or 128 tick?
  • Will it operate 24/7 or at your discretion?

Competitive play hosts 5v5 creating a smaller hardware demand. Whereas 32-player servers require extra. The CS:GO server requirements are surprisingly barebones. A dedicated low-end machine would handle it just fine.

Follow Valve's server guide to create one. Or, consider...
